New Delhi: Iran could attack at least 13 US cities. President Donald Trump fears this, and has ordered increased security in these cities. At a rally on Tuesday (October 6), Trump said that Iran wants to attack Los Angeles and San Diego. “Let them try. We are improving our security system.” Trump further said that we are spending more to keep the cities safe. “It’s a matter of a few days.”

Trump’s statement comes at a time when Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has threatened to attack American cities. Furthermore, following Iran’s warning, the US has withdrawn its B-2 bombers from Fairford, UK, where Iran had threatened a drone attack.

These 13 cities of America are in range

The US federal government has decided to increase the budget for security in high-risk urban areas. Cities that have been targeted for increased security spending include the capital, Washington, DC, New York City, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Denver, Miami, New Orleans, Phoenix/Maricopa County, the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, and Los Angeles.

The US has decided to increase security in these cities based on a 2010 GSO report that stated that these 13 US cities are on the radar of terrorists.

Why is America afraid of Iran?

Iran threatened to attack Britain’s Fairford Air Base a few months ago. Last week, five individuals linked to Iran were seen conducting reconnaissance near the base. According to the Daily Mail, Iran intended to launch a drone attack on the base, which could destroy a US B-2 bomber at the base.

Speaking to reporters, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the decision was made in light of the Iranian threat. This means the US believes Iran could launch a proxy attack at any time.

The US is scheduled to hold midterm elections next month, and these elections are considered crucial for President Trump.
