Ratia: The family of late Kanta Devi Mangla has set an inspiring example of humanity by consenting to donate her eyes after her death, helping bring renewed hope to two people. Both corneas have been transplanted into recipients in need, offering them an opportunity to experience the world with improved vision.

The Bharat Vikas Parishad’s Ratia branch organised a condolence meeting at Aggarwal Dharamshala to pay tribute to Kanta Devi Mangla, wife of late Kishan Lal Mangla, who passed away on October 14, 2026. Members of the organisation expressed their heartfelt condolences and praised the family’s compassionate decision.

How Did the Family Decide to Donate Her Eyes?

After receiving news of Kanta Devi Mangla’s death, Janak Raj Goyal, service activity coordinator of the Bharat Vikas Parishad’s Ratia branch, contacted the family and encouraged them to consider eye donation.

Prominent local social worker and Gogamedi Ratia president Ramgopal Pal, along with Ram Ashram Ratia president Vinod Bansal, also supported the initiative. Kanta Devi’s sons, Ashwani Mangla and Ramlal Lala, readily agreed to the donation, recognising the value of helping others even during a period of personal grief.

Following their consent, Bharat Vikas Parishad Ratia president Raj Kumar Singla contacted the Lions Eye Bank team in Sirsa. The team travelled to Ratia and completed the necessary procedures to facilitate the donation.

The family’s decision demonstrated how an act of generosity can bring hope to others even in the aftermath of a profound personal loss.

Two Corneas Transplanted, Bringing New Hope

Eye donation is widely regarded as a significant act of charity because it can help people with corneal blindness regain their vision through transplantation.

Both corneas donated after Kanta Devi Mangla’s death have already been transplanted into people in need. Her contribution will continue to be remembered as an act of service that extended beyond her lifetime.

Parishad members emphasised that greater public awareness about eye donation is essential. They said informed decisions by families can help more people benefit from corneal transplantation and encourage a culture of compassion and social responsibility.

Parishad Calls for Greater Awareness of Eye Donation

Advocate Narendra Kumar Malik, contact activity coordinator of the Bharat Vikas Parishad’s Ratia branch, said the organisation continually works to strengthen the values of service, good conduct and cooperation in society.

He noted that encouraging people to participate in blood donation, eye donation and other charitable activities remains among the organisation’s important objectives. He urged families to discuss eye donation and understand its significance so that more people can make informed decisions.

Malik praised Kanta Devi Mangla’s family for agreeing to the donation during a difficult time. He said that improved vision for a recipient can bring renewed hope not only to that individual but also to their entire family.

The Parishad also appealed to social and religious organisations in Ratia, their members and residents of nearby villages to spread awareness. Families interested in arranging eye donation after a loved one’s death can contact members of the Bharat Vikas Parishad’s Ratia branch for assistance. The organisation said it would extend possible support for such initiatives.

Community Members Pay Tribute at Condolence Meeting

Several members of the Bharat Vikas Parishad attended the condolence meeting and paid tribute to Kanta Devi Mangla. Those present included environmental activity coordinator Nitesh Aggarwal, senior member Pradeep Bansal, service team member Dr Deepak Goyal and Vinod Garg, popularly known as Nikku, along with other members.

The attendees offered their condolences and appreciated the family’s decision to donate her eyes, describing it as an example of compassion and social responsibility.

A Message of Humanity Through Service

The Parishad shared the message: “Donate blood during life and eyes after death — serving humanity is the greatest duty.”

Kanta Devi Mangla’s eye donation highlights how a single act of generosity can offer renewed hope to people in need. Her family’s decision has delivered an inspiring message about compassion, community service and the lasting impact of helping others.
