New Delhi: The Delhi Panchayat Sangh has urged the Delhi government to raise the circle rate for agricultural land to ₹10 crore per acre, calling for the revised rates to be announced before Diwali. The organisation has also demanded a halt to fresh acquisitions of agricultural land until the higher rates come into force.

The demand comes amid longstanding concerns among farmers over compensation for land acquired for development projects. The Sangh maintains that Delhi’s farmers deserve fairer land valuations and compensation in line with applicable laws and market rates.

Why Are Farmers Demanding a Higher Circle Rate?

Delhi Panchayat Sangh chief Than Singh Yadav said agricultural land in Delhi had continued to be acquired at comparatively lower rates than land in neighbouring states. He described the gap as a source of financial injustice for farming families who lose valuable land.

Yadav stressed that agricultural land is more than a physical asset for farmers. It provides their livelihood, supports their families and contributes to the financial security of future generations. He argued that compensation should reflect the importance of land to those whose lives depend on it.

Demand to Review Compensation for Land Acquired Since 2000

The Sangh has called for a review of compensation paid for agricultural land acquired from 2000 onwards. Yadav said eligible farmers should receive compensation based on applicable laws, eligibility criteria and the appropriate market value, along with other benefits due to them.

According to the organisation, reviewing older cases could help address concerns among families who believe the compensation they received did not adequately reflect the value of their acquired land. The objective, it said, should be to prevent affected households from facing financial hardship.

Panchayat Sangh Announces Support for Farmers’ Protest

The Delhi Panchayat Sangh announced that its representatives would join the farmers’ protest and support their demands. It also appealed to MPs, MLAs, ministers and officials representing rural Delhi to set aside political differences and collectively raise farmers’ concerns.

The organisation said agricultural communities should receive appropriate consideration in the capital’s development plans and budget allocations. It called for rural interests to be recognised alongside Delhi’s wider infrastructure and urban development priorities.

Four Key Demands Placed Before the Government

The Sangh’s demands include raising the agricultural land circle rate to ₹10 crore per acre, suspending fresh land acquisition until the revised rates are implemented, reviewing compensation for land acquired since 2000 and ensuring that farmers’ interests receive due attention in Delhi’s development policies and budgets.

The next step rests with the Delhi government, which will need to consider the proposed rate revision and the demand for reviewing previous compensation cases.
