New Delhi: Stealing the Bugatti Chiron, one of the world’s most expensive and luxurious cars, would be a significant undertaking. However, this time, the thief stole the car belonging to Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac. Surprisingly, the car keys were still inside. However, the thief may have forgotten that tracking such an expensive car can be incredibly easy. Finally, using GPS location, the car was located, and Austrian police chased and apprehended the thief.

Mate Rimac himself explained the incident. According to him, he often left the keys to his Chiron and some other company cars inside. There was a specific reason for this. Company employees often used these cars for testing or other purposes. Therefore, leaving the keys inside wasn’t a problem. Nothing like this had ever happened before, but this time was different.

GPS tracking exposed the thief

Rimac’s company campus is not closed from all sides like a normal factory. The environment here is kept open, so that people can come and go easily. Although, an entry card is required to enter the office and other buildings, but there is no special barricading or boundary around the entire campus. Taking advantage of this, an unknown person took away the Bugatti Chiron. Initially, no one even suspected theft. Rimac said that many employees in the company used to drive their cars, so even if someone saw the car going out, they thought that perhaps an employee was taking it away.

The case came to light when a person told employees that they had seen an unknown person leaving the campus driving a Chiron. This caused a stir within the company. Rimac immediately informed the police and checked the car’s location. GPS data showed the car was heading towards Slovenia. Rimac continued to monitor its location and hoped to catch the thief before he could reach another country. However, the thief crossed the border and reached Austria.

Apprehended by Austrian police

Meanwhile, the car’s fuel supply was running low. The thief stopped to refuel along the way and was eventually apprehended by Austrian police. Rimac praised the Austrian police, saying that the officers did a great job in recovering the car. Rimac later went to the police station, where they met the accused. They learned that the accused was a local Croatian man, around 35 years old, with a history of controversy and trouble. The accused explained that he had come to the company looking for a job. He spotted the Chiron, and upon seeing the keys inside, decided to flee with the car.

The car sustained minor damage in the incident, but Rimac stated that it will be repaired. They also clarified that they do not intend to file a case against the accused, although the theft of such an expensive car will result in legal action, and the accused will have to face it.

Rimac stated that while they still trust Croatia’s safety features, leaving the keys in the car was their own mistake. They stated that no car keys will be left inside the factory in the future. This incident has certainly taught the company a valuable lesson. Rimac thanked the police, especially the Austrian police, and said that this incident will be remembered for a long time.
