Washington: There is a possibility of tension between America and Iran increasing once again. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly pressuring US President Donald Trump to launch new military strikes against Iran. According to the Axios report, Netanyahu wants the US to attack Iran again immediately after the midterm elections on November 3. However, Trump currently wants to give the ongoing diplomatic talks with Tehran a chance to move forward.
There was a phone conversation between the two leaders on Saturday. During this, the status of talks with Iran and the possibility of resuming military action were discussed. The report quoted an Israeli and an American official as saying that the talks were very strict and direct.
What was the conversation between Netanyahu and Trump?
According to the report, Netanyahu raised the issue of new attacks on Iran with Trump. The US President believes that diplomatic efforts should be continued before military action. Trump confirmed on Sunday that he had a good conversation with Netanyahu. However, he did not clarify whether any decision was taken between the two leaders regarding the date of the attack or not.
Trump wants to continue talks with Iran?
The Trump administration is currently exploring the possibility of an agreement with Iran. According to reports, Iranian representatives were holding talks in Doha for the third consecutive day under the mediation of Qatar. The purpose of these discussions is to work out an agreement to end the conflict.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said talks with Qatar were progressing. He also said that Iran is ready for both diplomacy and self-defense. The proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz has also been discussed in the talks.
Will America attack Iranian targets again?
Trump has expressed a desire for a diplomatic solution but has not completely rejected the military option. According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump has not yet decided on new attacks on Iran.
At the same time, Trump indicated that there are still one or two such targets left in Iran which can be targeted. He said that action can be taken at these locations within a few minutes. He also mentioned the suspected underground nuclear complex Pickaxe Mountain.
What warning did Iran give to America?
Iran has warned that if the US and Israel attack again, the next conflict could last longer than the previous one. Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akarminiya said that America will not decide the duration of the future war and the conditions for its end.
Tehran has previously warned that in case of new attacks, it could target American and Israeli bases in neighbouring countries. In such a situation, there is a possibility of an increase in tension in the region after America’s midterm elections.
