New Delhi: Delhi Traffic Police have intensified inspections at the capital’s entry points to prevent polluting vehicles from entering the city amid restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). In a special enforcement drive, the Northern Range traffic teams turned away 609 vehicles for allegedly failing to meet the prescribed emission standards.
The action was part of efforts to control vehicular pollution and improve air quality in the national capital. Special enforcement teams have been deployed at various border crossings and entry routes to ensure compliance with the restrictions.
Over 7,600 Vehicles Inspected in 36 Hours
According to traffic police officials, the drive was conducted under the directions of Northern Range Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sachin Kumar Singhal.
Between midnight on October 31, 2026, and noon on November 2, 2026, traffic personnel inspected a total of 7,657 vehicles at different entry points.
During these checks, 609 vehicles found to be non-compliant with the applicable emission standards and restrictions were sent back before they could enter Delhi.
Why Are Vehicles Being Turned Away?
The enforcement action aims to implement restrictions imposed under GRAP, including the prohibition on the entry of vehicles below the BS-VI emission standard, as applicable under the prevailing directions.
The restrictions are intended to limit vehicular emissions, which contribute to the city’s air pollution. Traffic personnel are checking vehicles at border points to prevent those violating the applicable norms from entering the capital.
Strict Enforcement to Continue at Delhi Borders
The Northern Range Traffic Police have made it clear that violations of environmental regulations will not be treated lightly. Special teams will continue monitoring vehicles at entry points, and those failing to meet the prescribed requirements will be denied entry.
The latest operation highlights the traffic department’s efforts to enforce pollution-control measures at the city’s borders. Authorities have reiterated that compliance with the applicable emission standards and GRAP restrictions is essential for vehicles seeking entry into Delhi.
