New Delhi: There is news of gangster Harry Boxer being detained in America. He is accused of being associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and involved in several criminal cases including murder, extortion and intimidation. The boxer had reportedly claimed responsibility for the shooting outside film producer Rohit Shetty’s house in Mumbai. Audio messages and social media posts threatening Bollywood celebrities also surfaced after the incident.
How solid is the news of his detention in America?
According to media reports, US authorities have detained the boxer in California. He was being searched in several criminal cases in India and there were reports of a lookout circular being issued against him. However, being detained in the US does not mean that he has been extradited to India. To bring it to India, a separate legal and administrative process will have to be completed.
How did his name appear in the firing outside Rohit Shetty’s house?
The firing took place on the morning of February 1, 2026, outside Shetty’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area. After the incident, a post appeared on social media, in which some people, including the boxer, were allegedly named and claimed responsibility for the attack. The police arrested the accused in the case and started investigating the reason behind the incident and the alleged links. According to media reports, no one was injured in the firing.
What was said in the threatening audio messages?
Some audio messages surfaced after the incident. Among them, a person identifying himself as “Arju Bishnoi” allegedly took the names of the boxer and Shubham Lonkar and claimed responsibility for the firing. The message described the attack as a “small trailer” and warned of serious consequences for those supporting the gang’s opponents. The police have also investigated the authenticity of the messages and the identity of those who sent them. A claim made in a message is not in itself proof of a conspiracy behind an attack.
Did other film stars also receive threats?
The boxer’s name has also cropped up in media reports in connection with alleged threat messages sent to Shetty and actor Ranveer Singh. Mumbai Police had investigated the voice messages related to both of them. According to a report, a demand of Rs 20 crore was made to Singh’s manager through phone calls and voice notes, following which a complaint was lodged with the police. Police also investigated by comparing the voice heard in the messages with that of the boxer.
Now what can happen next?
Whether the process of bringing the boxer to India starts after his detention in the US or not will depend on the related legal and administrative steps. Available reports do not confirm the date of his extradition to India or the completion of the process. Police in India are investigating cases of firing, alleged extortion and threats from different aspects. The allegations against the boxer can be confirmed only after investigation and court process.
