10 Maoists Give Up Arms Before Jharkhand Police in Chaibasa

Ten Maoists, including four women, on Thursday gave themselves up to senior police officers in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand and chose to return to normal life, officials said.
These members of the banned CPI (Maoist) group handed over their weapons to DGP Anurag Gupta, West Singhbhum SP Amit Renu and other senior officers from Jharkhand Police, Jharkhand Jaguar and the CRPF in Chaibasa.

Senior Maoist Member Among Those Who Surrendered

Among them was Rando Boipai, also known as Kranti Boipai, who worked as an area committee member for the outfit’s eastern regional bureau. Officials said the Maoists were moved by the state government’s surrender and rehabilitation plan and decided to join the mainstream. Police added that all of them were facing several charges under the IPC, Explosive Substances Act and CLA Act.

Police Call It a Major Success

A senior police officer called it a “big achievement” and said the surrender of these members would weaken Maoist activities in Jharkhand, especially in West Singhbhum. Jharkhand Police again urged Maoists to leave violence and return to normal life, warning of strict action otherwise. Since 2022, 9,631 anti-Maoist drives have been carried out in West Singhbhum, in which 10 Maoists have been killed and 175 arrested, an officer said. Besides Boipai, the others who surrendered are Gardi Koda (20), John alias Johan Purity (20), Nirso Sidu alias Asha alias Nirasha (20), Ghonar Devgam (18), Gomeya Koda alias Tarzan (20), Kaira Koda (20), Kairi Kayam alias Gulachi (22), Savitri Gope alias Mutri Gope (18) and Pradip Singh Munda.
