Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said that 30 Naxals surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region and have now joined the rehabilitation process. Sharma stated that the surrender in Bijapur district, followed by rehabilitation, was possible due to the successful action of state security forces. He also appealed to other Naxals to give up violence and crime so that they can choose a better life, media reported. Speaking to the media, Sharma said that this success is the result of the state government’s rehabilitation policy, the bravery of security forces, and ongoing development efforts in Chhattisgarh.
Previous Surrenders in the State
Earlier, on August 17, the Gariaband Police achieved success when four Naxals surrendered. Inspector General Amresh Mishra had described it as an “unprecedented success” for both Gariaband Police and the state. The four had a combined bounty of ₹19 lakh. In another major development, 66 Naxals, including senior members and women cadres, surrendered in July across five districts as part of the ongoing operations against the group.
Violence Still Continues
Despite these surrenders, violent incidents remain. On Monday, a blast triggered by Naxals in Bijapur killed one officer and injured two others. A similar blast in June had also caused the same toll.
