New Delhi: The investigation into Bhopal’s high-profile Twisha Sharma death case has taken a significant turn. The Medical Board of AIIMS Delhi has submitted the final forensic report of the second post-mortem, conducted on the court’s directions, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to the report, the skin tissue found on the gymnastics belt allegedly used in the hanging matches the injuries on Twisha Sharma’s neck. Investigators are treating the finding as crucial forensic evidence, and the CBI’s probe is expected to move forward based on this scientific report.
What is the most important revelation of the second post-mortem report?
According to sources, the forensic team of AIIMS Delhi, in its detailed investigation, found that skin tissue was present on the gymnastics belt used as the alleged noose. Laboratory and histopathology tests found that these tissues matched the pattern of injuries found on Twisha Sharma’s neck. This aspect could not be confirmed in the initial post-mortem, because at that time the material of the alleged noose was not presented before the medical board. This was the reason that later the High Court ordered a re-postmortem.
Why was there a need for a second post-mortem?
Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her in-laws’ house in Bhopal on May 12. The family had raised many questions on the first post-mortem and initial investigation. It was alleged that important evidence was not examined properly and certain aspects were ignored. After this, the matter reached the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Considering the whole matter as serious, the court ordered a second post-mortem by the expert medical board of AIIMS Delhi. Later, the investigation was also handed over to CBI so that a fair investigation could be ensured.
How important is this report considered for CBI?
The 11-page forensic report of AIIMS has been handed over to CBI in a sealed envelope. The report contains findings based on scientific tests, which the investigating agency will now examine in conjunction with other evidence and statements of witnesses. It is believed that the report can play an important role in determining the circumstances under which the death occurred and how the material recovered from the spot was related to it. The investigating officer will now decide further legal action and investigation strategy on the basis of the report.
What was the difference between the first and the second report?
During the first post-mortem, the material from which the noose was allegedly made was not available before the medical board. For this reason, scientific comparison between injuries and the noose was not possible. For the second time, the relevant material was made available to AIIMS experts, after which detailed forensic investigation, laboratory tests and histopathology analysis were conducted. These tests confirmed that skin tissue was found and matched the injuries, which provided a new basis for the investigation.
Now in which direction will the investigation move further?
At present, CBI is studying this report in detail. The investigating agency will collate other physical evidence collected from the spot, forensic findings, and statements of the people concerned. If the findings recorded in the scientific report also match other evidence, the case could prove decisive in further investigation and possible legal action.
