Patna: Before the by-election to be held on the Bankipur assembly seat of Bihar, Jan Suraaj Party has suffered a big political setback. Amid the election campaign of party founder Prashant Kishore, three of his prominent leaders joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the meeting organised at the BJP state office, former Kumhrar candidate KC Sinha, Gopal Singh, who had contested from Maner, and former Digha candidate Bittu Singh joined the BJP along with their supporters. This development is being considered a big blow to the organisational structure of Jan Suraaj just before the elections.
Will the political equations change before the by-elections?
The politics of Bihar is already hot regarding the Bankipur by-election. Prashant Kishore himself is contesting this seat as Jan Suraaj’s candidate. At such a time, the joining of many prominent leaders of the party together in the BJP has become a new topic of discussion in political circles. Political analysts believe that such a breakdown during the election campaign can become a challenge for any new party. However, its real impact will be visible only in the voting and election results.
Which leaders left Jan Suraaj?
The most prominent name among those who joined the BJP is KC Sinha, who was made the candidate by Jan Suraaj from the Kumhrar seat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Apart from these, Gopal Singh, who had contested elections from Maner Assembly, and Bittu Singh, who was a candidate from Digha, also left the party. Along with these leaders, a large number of workers also took membership of the BJP. BJP leaders welcomed him and claimed that this would strengthen the party in the by-elections.
Had Bittu Singh already given signals?
Bittu Singh, who had contested the elections from Digha Assembly on Jan Suraaj’s ticket, had hinted at leaving the party a few days ago. He had issued a public letter saying that he was parting ways with Jan Suraaj and would support the BJP candidate in the Bankipur by-election. After this, speculations about his joining the BJP had intensified, which has now been formally approved.
Did the results of the 2025 assembly elections also have an impact?
The three leaders who joined the BJP had contested the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections on Jan Suraaj’s ticket, but no one had won. After the election defeat, there was continuous discussion of dissatisfaction within the organisation. It is believed that keeping in mind the future political prospects, these leaders have turned to the BJP. However, these leaders have publicly stated that their decision is related to development and political ideology.
Will the challenge increase for Jan Suraaj?
Prashant Kishore started the campaign to establish Jan Suraaj as an alternative political force in Bihar. The by-election is being considered an important test for the party. At such a time, pressure on the organisation may increase if senior leaders leave the party. However, till the time of writing this news, there was no official response from Jan Suraaj on this development. Now everyone’s eyes will be on how the party recovers from this political setback and how its performance is in the Bankipur by-election.
