Tehran: A shocking claim has come to light regarding US President Donald Trump. Iran-backed Iraqi armed organisation Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI) has reportedly announced a reward of 10 million dollars for anyone who assassinates Trump. This claim has come at a time when tension between America and Iran has already increased.
However, this announcement has not been confirmed by any independent international agency or the US administration.
Why was there talk of targeting Trump?
IRI alleges that Donald Trump is responsible for the US drone attack near Baghdad in January 2020. In this attack, Iran’s Quds Force chief General Qasim Sulemani and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were killed.
The organisation says that the person who murders Trump, gets it done, or helps in any way in this work will be given a reward. Iranian government media reports have claimed that arrangements for the reward money have also been made.
What did Trump say in the White House?
A few days ago, during his meeting with the prime minister of Iraq at the White House, Trump had mentioned a military campaign in 2020. He had said that the action taken against Qasim Sulemani was necessary for America’s security and that it had eliminated a major threat. Trump also mentioned Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in his statement.
Who was Qasim Sulemani?
Qassem Soleimani was the chief of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He was considered the most influential face of Iran’s foreign policy and military strategy. He was killed in a US drone strike near Baghdad Airport in January 2020.
The US alleged that Soleimani was involved in planning several attacks and violent activities. On the other hand, Iran considers him a national hero and calls his death an aggressive action by America.
What happened after Soleimani’s death?
There were massive protests in Iran after the death of General Soleimani. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had said at that time that those responsible for this attack would have to pay the price. After this, the tension in the relations between America and Iran increased further.
Has there been an official response to this claim?
Till now, no official statement has been issued by the US administration on this alleged reward announcement. At the same time, this claim has not been independently confirmed. In such a situation, it is being considered as a claim made on the basis of related media reports.
Note: This news is based on claims made in various media reports. Independent confirmation of the 10 million dollar reward announcement is not available at this time.
