New Delhi: After hours of clashes and confrontations, Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protesters have returned to Jantar Mantar and resumed their agitation. According to an official, Delhi Police have detained 70 people so far in connection with the violence that erupted during Monday’s CJP protest march. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, AAP launched a helpline to provide legal and medical assistance to the detained and injured CJP protesters.
Are protestors back at Jantar Mantar?
A day after Delhi Police cleared Jantar Mantar following violent clashes, CJP members have returned to the protest site late Monday night and resumed their agitation. Police allowed the protesters to gather peacefully but maintained a heavy security presence amid concerns over a possible march towards Parliament.
Around 200 supporters of CJP are still present at the protest site. Heavy police deployment remains in place at Jantar Mantar as authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
After the clashes on Monday, the protesters again reached Jantar Mantar, where they prepared temporary tents and stages and resumed their agitation.
Did AAP launch a helpline number?
Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday launched a helpline number to provide legal and medical aid to CJP protesters. In a press conference, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that his party has launched a helpline number, 8588833548, to provide medical aid to injured protesters and legal assistance to family members of students who were detained.
“The police brutality we saw on young protesters! Even the British did not unleash violence on freedom fighters similar to what the Modi government did to our own children. The videos showed that police kept beating girls and students, and lathi-charging them without any provocation,” Kejriwal said.
What about Abhijeet Dipke?
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has continued his sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar. The Cockroach Janata Party founder announced late on Monday night that the protesters would not back down from their plan to march towards Parliament and the protest at Jantar Mantar would continue.
How many people are detained?
Delhi Police have detained 70 people in connection with Monday’s violence during the CJP protest march. The police have started investigating the entire incident. CCTV footage and mobile video are being scrutinised. Officials said it is also being investigated whether the violence was part of some larger conspiracy. The process of registering several FIRs in relation to the incident is also going on.
Authorities said the action follows incidents of alleged stone pelting, vandalism and attacks on police personnel during the demonstration.
Did security increase at Jantar Mantar?
A large number of protesters remained standing at Jantar Mantar till late Monday night. A heavy police force was also deployed on the spot. Officials said that if another attempt is made to march to Parliament on Tuesday, security arrangements will remain as tight as before and barricades will be installed again
According to Delhi Police, over 118 police and paramilitary personnel, including 10 IPS and Delhi Police officers, were injured during Monday evening’s clashes. Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar visited the injured personnel at the hospital and reviewed their condition.
