New Delhi: An important hearing in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case was held in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday. The court has currently postponed the decision to take cognisance of the charge sheet filed by the CBI. Now the order on this is expected to come on August 12. Along with this, the court also extended the judicial custody of all the 13 accused arrested in the case till August 12. The court has given permission to interrogate the accused through video conferencing.
Why did the court postpone the decision on the charge sheet?
CBI has filed a charge sheet of about 20 thousand pages against 13 accused in the NEET-UG paper leak case. A large number of witnesses and documents are also mentioned in it. A hearing was held in the court to take cognisance of the charge sheet, but no final order was given on it on Monday. Now the next hearing of the case will be on August 12.
What investigation had the three accused demanded?
A separate application was filed in the court on behalf of Mangilal Biwal, Vikas Biwal and Dinesh Biwal. In this, all three had demanded instructions to get their polygraph, brain mapping and lie detector tests done. The court did not accept his demand and rejected the application.
Why was the custody of 13 accused extended?
All the 13 accused arrested in the case are currently in judicial custody. The court on Monday ordered extension of his custody till August 12. Even before this, the court had extended the period of custody of the accused. Considering the action of the investigating agency and the further legal process in the case, the accused will remain in jail for the time being.
Will interrogation be done through video conferencing?
According to the court order, the accused will be interrogated through video conferencing. This will provide the investigating agency a way to further interrogate the accused, while their judicial custody will also continue. In the case, CBI is investigating the network and role of the accused related to the alleged paper leak.
What has come to light so far in the case?
CBI’s charge sheet is said to be around 20 thousand pages long. 360 witnesses and 422 documents have been cited in this. The investigating agency has framed charges against 13 accused based on its investigation in the case. The court will now see whether cognisance should be taken against the accused on the basis of the material presented in the charge sheet.
Why is the case going on in the fast track court of Rouse Avenue?
A special fast track court has been set up at Rouse Avenue for speedy hearing of the NEET-UG paper leak case. Initially this case came up in the court of special judge Anu Grover Baliga. After his transfer, Judge Ajay Gupta was given the responsibility of the fast track court and now the case is being heard before him.
Now what will happen on 12th August?
The next important date of the case is August 12. On that day the court can give its order regarding taking cognisance of the CBI charge sheet. Besides this, the further status of judicial custody of the accused will also be clear. At present all the 13 accused are in custody and the legal process is progressing in the court along with the investigation of the case.
