Kanpur: The body of a dead 25-year-old woman, whose death occurred under suspicious circumstances in an orchard in Ghatampur of Kanpur, has taken a drastic turn following the post-mortem result that she was seven months pregnant. DNA samples of the fetus and other forensics have been saved to possibly determine if sexual assault occurred. But cause of death was not determined on post mortem examination.

The Ghatampur police have filed an FIR against two men, who are known to the woman, under serious charges of murder after a complaint from the woman’s father.
The woman’s body was found in an orchard on the outskirts of a village in Ghatampur on Thursday. Her family members recognized the body and claimed the two men murdered her and threw the body in the orchard.
What is the case?
The complainant, who has lived in Patara, Ghatampur, said his elder daughter had left home with her lover earlier this year without telling the family. The couple later got into an argument, and about a month ago the woman came back home, he said. She then ran away with another man.
Her father’s complaint read that she had been in a relationship with both Gola Pandey, who lives in the village and Pranjal, who lives in the city. He said the two men beat her to death and tossed her body in the orchard.
What did the police say?
Since the post-mortem report did not clearly indicate the cause of death, the police have preserved the viscera for examination. The police are now trying to determine the circumstances of the young woman’s death.
Police say both lovers are being questioned in custody. They are also being charged under sections related to allegedly inciting the woman to commit suicide or death.
Now, the DNA report will be the most crucial element in the police investigation. The child’s DNA will be matched with the DNA of both accused. The report will clarify who the child’s father was and what further legal action will be taken in the case.
At present, the police is busy connecting the entire chain of the girl’s death on the basis of post-mortem report, viscera test, DNA report and interrogation.
