Washington: The debate regarding the 2020 presidential election in America has once again intensified. President Donald Trump has claimed that more than 24 thousand non-citizen voters have been identified in the initial investigation of 2020 voter records and citizenship records. Trump once again claimed that he had won the 2020 election and demanded Congress pass the SAVE America Act.
Are 2020 voter records being verified by citizenship?
According to Trump, the US Census Bureau is combining the 2020 voter records with citizenship records. Trump said that in the initial investigation of 12.8 crore records, more than 24 thousand non-citizens were found to have voted.
He said on Truth Social that about 3.2 crore voter records are yet to be verified and this number may increase further. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick also said an investigation into the remaining records could reveal additional cases.
Names of citizens of which countries are claimed to be revealed?
According to the data shared by Trump, among the records in which the identity of non-citizen voters has been claimed, the number of people associated with Mexico has been reported to be the highest. After this, the names of Canada, Philippines, Jamaica, Germany, Britain, Cuba, Vietnam, Haiti and South Korea have been mentioned.
However, it is important to understand the difference between these figures that the mismatch of a voter record with the citizenship record does not in itself prove that the person concerned knowingly voted illegally.
Why is Trump then saying that he won the 2020 election?
With this claim, Trump has once again reiterated his old statement regarding the 2020 presidential elections. In the official election results, Joe Biden was the winner and got 306 electoral votes, while Trump got 232 votes. Many legal challenges were also raised regarding Trump’s claims related to the 2020 election.

Now Trump is presenting this new investigation of voter records in support of his objections to the 2020 election.
What is the SAVE America Act?
Amidst this entire controversy, Trump has reiterated his demand to pass the SAVE America Act soon. The official name of this proposal is Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. Under this, a system of providing documentary proof of American citizenship at the time of voter registration in federal elections is proposed. The bill also provides for a photo ID requirement to vote in federal elections.
At present this law has not been made. H.R. Bill 7296 was introduced in the House of Representatives in January 2026 and has been referred to a House committee.
Why is Trump giving the example of India’s election system?
Trump has also praised India’s election system amid the voter ID debate in America. Referring to the conversation with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, he said that there is a system of photo identification for voters in India. Trump presented this as an example in support of strict election identification rules in America.
Referring to the voter identification system in India, Trump is emphasizing the need to pursue the SAVE America Act.
Has illegal voting of 24 thousand non-citizens been confirmed?
The most important thing here is that the figure of more than 24 thousand non-citizens casting their votes has currently come out as a claim made by Trump. This cannot be presented as established fact proving large-scale electoral fraud in the 2020 elections.
The official results of the 2020 election have not changed and Joe Biden was declared the winner. Now, due to this new investigation and its data, the debate on election transparency, voter identification and citizenship proof has again intensified in America.
