However, it is important to understand the difference between these figures that the mismatch of a voter record with the citizenship record does not in itself prove that the person concerned knowingly voted illegally.

At present this law has not been made. H.R. Bill 7296 was introduced in the House of Representatives in January 2026 and has been referred to a House committee.

Referring to the conversation with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, he said that there is a system of photo identification for voters in India. Trump presented this as an example in support of strict election identification rules in America.
