Tehran: There have been reports of loud explosions being heard around Iran’s strategically important Qeshm Island. According to local eyewitnesses and sources, the sound of the explosions was felt coming from the direction of the sea. There has been increased commotion in the area after the incident. However, till now detailed information regarding the exact cause and damage of these blasts has not been revealed by the Iranian authorities.
According to the report of Iranian government news agency IRNA, several loud explosions were heard one after the other around Qeshm Island. Local sources told the agency that the sounds were felt coming from the sea in the coastal area. Concern has increased at the local level after the blasts. At present, officials are reviewing other information related to the incident.
Did the explosions near Qeshm Island increase concern?
Initial reports published in government media quoting local sources said that sounds of explosions were heard in the coastal area. However, what was the nature of these blasts and which incident was responsible behind them, the situation is not completely clear yet. Were two Iranian boats targeted?
Before this incident, the US military had claimed on Tuesday that it destroyed two small Iranian boats in Iran’s coastal waters. According to the American side, these boats had tried to capture an American unmanned drone vessel.
US Central Command spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins said that Iranian boats had allegedly attempted to capture an American unmanned surface vessel (USV). The US Army took action and foiled this attempt.
According to the American side, the USV which was attempted to be captured was about 25 feet i.e. 8 meters long and was capable of operating autonomously.
What did Iran say about this incident?
On the other hand, Iranian government media has reported an attack on two fishing boats near Hormozgan province, located on the southern coast of the country. According to Ahmed Nafisi, the Lieutenant Governor of Hormozgan, a drone targeted both boats in the Persian Gulf.
It was told that after the attack, information about the disappearance of many fishermen has come to light. However, Iranian media reports did not mention any attempt to intercept the American drone.
Is there any connection between the two incidents?
