According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, heavy to extremely heavy rain may occur in many parts of the state in the next 24 hours. A red alert of extremely heavy rain has been issued for Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti and surrounding areas including Bahraich. Many other districts have been kept in orange and yellow alert category. There is a warning of very heavy rain in eastern Uttar Pradesh on September 26 and heavy rain with thunderstorms and strong winds on September 27.
How did a woman die due to wall collapse in Bahraich?
The wall of a kutcha house collapsed amid rain in Devlakha village of Kaiserganj area of Bahraich. A 52-year-old woman, Nankai, died after being buried under the debris. In Malhipur Khurd village of Shravasti, the wall of a house weakened by rain collapsed. Around 20 year old Mahmood Raza was sleeping inside the house at the time of the accident. He was seriously injured after being hit by debris.
In which districts were trees and electricity system affected?
There are reports of trees falling at many places in Sultanpur due to rain coupled with strong wind. Due to this, movement on the roads was affected and power supply was also disrupted. In Amethi too, due to continuous rain and wind, mud houses, trees and electricity system have been affected. Many transformers and 33 and 11 KV power lines have been damaged due to falling trees and big branches in Ayodhya. Traffic on many routes was affected due to falling of trees and electric poles in Ambedkar Nagar.
Have farmers’ crops also been affected by rain?
Continuous rain and strong winds have increased the worries of farmers. There are reports of standing paddy and sugarcane crops falling in the fields in Sultanpur and Amethi. Paddy and vegetable crops have also been affected in some areas. Due to warnings that the rainy season will continue further, farmers fear increased crop losses.
Why are schools closed in many districts including Lucknow?
In view of the warning of bad weather and heavy rain, orders have been given to keep schools closed in many districts including Lucknow. On September 26, an order was issued to keep all schools from classes 1 to 12 closed in Lucknow. Schools have also been closed in many districts including Kanpur, Gonda, Sultanpur and Prayagraj, while holidays have been declared in schools up to class 8 in some districts.
What instructions did CM Yogi give to the officials?
In view of the possibility of heavy rains and flash floods, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the District Magistrates to remain active in the field. Schools in red alert and flood prone areas have been asked to be closed and people living in dilapidated houses and huts have been asked to be evacuated to safe places if necessary. Officials have also been instructed to assess the damage caused by rain and lightning and immediately provide assistance to the affected families.

The administration has appealed to the people to follow weather warnings and not leave the house unnecessarily.
