New Delhi: Taking a proactive approach to raising awareness against speeding and violation of traffic rules on the capital’s roads, the Delhi Traffic Police organised two major road safety awareness programmes in the Seelampur area under the ‘Surakshit Safar’ (Safe Journey) campaign. The programmes were organised by the Bhajanpura Traffic Circle, with around 290 people participating and pledging to follow traffic rules.
Under the supervision of East Range Traffic DCP Shweta Chauhan, the Delhi Traffic Police, in collaboration with Yug Sanskriti Nyas and Efkon Strabag, organised the awareness programmes near Seelampur Metro Station and Seelampur T-Point. The programmes were conducted under the leadership of Traffic Inspector Abhijit Chaitanya and Traffic Inspector Vikas Kumar.
Around 160 people participated in the street play held at Seelampur Metro Station, while approximately 130 people attended the road safety awareness programme at Seelampur T-Point.
Message of Saving Lives Reaches the Streets Through Theatre
At Seelampur Metro Station, the expert team from Yug Sanskriti Nyas highlighted serious road safety issues through an engaging and impactful street play. Through their performances, the artists conveyed that a few seconds of haste on the road can lead to a lifetime of suffering.
The street play focused on several important issues, including speeding, reckless driving, driving by minors, the use of helmets and seat belts, pedestrian safety, and violations of traffic rules.
During the programme, people were told that helmets and seat belts are not merely ways to avoid traffic fines but serve as protective measures that can save lives in the event of an accident. Similarly, using mobile phones while driving, overspeeding and reckless driving can lead to road accidents.
Traffic Discipline Highlighted at T-Point
At the second awareness programme held at Seelampur T-Point, motorists, pedestrians and other road users were sensitised about the importance of traffic discipline. People were urged to drive responsibly and follow traffic rules voluntarily.
The Delhi Traffic Police emphasised that road safety is not merely about complying with the law but is a shared responsibility of every individual. A small mistake by one driver can put the lives of several people on the road at risk.
Public Participation in ‘Surakshit Safar’
Both programmes received enthusiastic support from local residents. People actively participated in the street play and interactive awareness sessions and appreciated the messages related to road safety.
The Traffic Police’s objective was to promote responsible driving habits, encourage voluntary compliance with traffic rules, and ensure public participation in preventing road accidents.
The Delhi Traffic Police appealed to all road users to control their speed, wear helmets and seat belts, follow traffic rules, and respect the lives and safety of others on the road.
