A dispute over prasad at Kalkaji Mandir late Friday night ended in tragedy, claiming the life of a 35-year-old temple sewadar who had been working there for more than ten years, police said. Officials said that a PCR call reporting a dispute inside the temple was received around 9:30 pm. When the police arrived, they found that a group of men had come for darshan and later demanded “chunni prasad” from the sewadar, Yogendra Singh.
Assault Inside the Temple
The argument escalated, and the men reportedly attacked Singh with sticks, hitting him repeatedly, police said. He was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre but passed away during treatment. A clip of the incident shows about five to six men striking Singh while he remains on the ground. Bystanders watched helplessly as the assault continued, expressing shock and horror.
Victim’s Background
Singh, who hailed from Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, had been serving at Kalkaji Mandir for the past 14 to 15 years, police said.
Investigation and Arrests
The Kalkaji police have filed a case under sections 103(1) for murder and 3(5) for common intent of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials said that one of the suspects, 30-year-old Atul Pandey from Dakshinpuri, was caught at the spot by local people and handed over to the authorities. Authorities are now working to identify and arrest the other men involved in the attack.
