New Delhi: Delhi Police has taken action against the leaders of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) who came to protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Police detained Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajikya Shinde. Earlier, an FIR was registered against these leaders and other members of the organisation for allegedly entering the restricted area without permission. All three were presented in SEM court for hearing.

Why were CJP leaders arrested?

According to the information, CJP workers had reached Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protesters raised their demands while raising slogans. According to police officials, sections related to violation of the conditions of the peace bond given earlier to maintain peace during the protest have also been included in the case.

Jantar Mantar was recently removed from the list of scheduled protest sites. Despite this, the police took action after the members of the organisation reached there.

What allegations did the protesters make?

CJP claimed that about 11 members of the organisation were detained. Party’s legal head Ratna Singh had posted on social media that the leaders would be produced in the court. At the same time, the organisation’s founder Dipke raised questions on the police action and said that despite the change in the protest venue, their movement will continue.

According to a police official, the detained protesters were taken to Jafarpur Kalan police station in Daryaganj district. After some workers gathered outside the police station, security was increased there.

Were CJP leaders detained earlier also?

Earlier on Saturday also, Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained after reaching Delhi. Due to tight security arrangements at that time, the proposed demonstration demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner could not take place. The three were released a day later on the condition that they would not disturb the peace for a year.

Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar had issued a standing order on October 11 and included Ramlila Maidan, Burari Maidan and CBD Maidan in the list of sites earmarked for protests. CJP says that its movement will continue even after removing Jantar Mantar from the list.

What will Cockroach Janata Party do next?

The organisation has indicated that it will continue the movement for its demands. According to the party, its representatives had also reached Sansad Marg police station with the aim of fixing the date and time for the peaceful protest.

At present, there is controversy regarding the police action and the protest site. Further action in the case will depend on the court proceedings and decisions of the concerned authorities.
