New Delhi: In an effort to promote road safety among young citizens, East Delhi Traffic Police organised a special awareness programme titled ‘Sampark Sabha’ at Vidya Bal Bhavan Senior Secondary School in Mayur Vihar Phase III. The initiative transformed the school premises into an interactive learning space where police personnel explained the importance of traffic rules and encouraged students to adopt safe road practices.

Traffic Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Tyagi attended the programme alongside Shweta Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Eastern Range. Assistant Commissioners of Police, traffic inspectors and other police personnel also interacted with students, highlighting the importance of road discipline and responsible behaviour.

Interactive Sessions Bring Traffic Rules into the Classroom

A road safety exhibition was organised to familiarise students with traffic regulations and safe practices. Police personnel used public address systems to reinforce messages about remaining alert on roads, following traffic rules and developing responsible civic habits.

The programme focused on making road safety education accessible and engaging for schoolchildren. Through direct interaction and practical awareness activities, officers encouraged students to understand how individual actions can contribute to safer roads for everyone.

How Can Children Become Road Safety Ambassadors?

The initiative aims to go beyond imparting basic knowledge of traffic regulations by encouraging children to develop safe habits from an early age. Police officials believe that lessons learned during childhood can influence behaviour throughout life.

Students who understand road safety can also share these lessons with their parents, family members and neighbours, helping spread awareness beyond school premises. During the programme, a senior officer described the initiative as an important effort in the eastern district and emphasised the value of reaching children directly with road safety education.

The programme also highlighted the role of schools in sustaining awareness. With the cooperation of school administrations, traffic clubs and road safety exhibitions are being encouraged to ensure that lessons learned in classrooms reach homes and the wider community.

Small Safety Measures Can Protect Precious Lives

East Delhi Traffic Police’s initiative underlines the importance of public awareness in preventing road accidents. Simple precautions, including wearing helmets, using seat belts, obeying traffic signals and crossing roads carefully, can significantly improve safety.

By involving schoolchildren in awareness programmes, the traffic police aims to nurture a culture of responsible road use and encourage young citizens to become active advocates for safer streets.
