Muzaffarnagar: Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Sunil Teotia conducted a surprise inspection of the emergency department at the District Hospital and the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre on Saturday to assess the quality of healthcare services and the arrangements for patient care.
CMO Directs Doctors to Ensure Prompt Treatment
During the inspection, Dr Teotia issued strict instructions to Emergency Medical Officer Dr Shikhar Gautam, directing doctors to leave their seats, attend to patients personally and ensure immediate treatment after assessing their medical condition. He emphasised that patients must not be left entirely in the hands of other staff members.
The CMO also instructed hospital authorities to ensure that a stretcher remains available outside the emergency department at all times. He warned that negligence in patient treatment would not be tolerated.
Patients and Families Asked About Medical Care
During his visit, Dr Teotia interacted with a young girl admitted to the emergency department and spoke with her family members to enquire about the treatment being provided. He also sought feedback from other patients regarding the availability and quality of medical facilities.
The interactions were aimed at assessing the functioning of emergency services and ensuring that patients receive timely attention from medical professionals.
Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre Also Inspected
Following the emergency department inspection, the CMO visited the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre and enquired about the well-being of children admitted there.
He directed the staff to pay special attention to the children’s nutritional requirements, healthcare, regular monitoring and treatment. He stressed the importance of ensuring appropriate care for children undergoing rehabilitation.
Timely Treatment Remains the Department’s Priority
Dr Teotia reiterated that providing timely and quality medical treatment to patients remains a key priority of the Health Department. He made it clear that negligence in healthcare delivery would not be tolerated and instructed medical personnel to remain attentive to their responsibilities.
The surprise inspection forms part of efforts to monitor hospital functioning and improve the delivery of healthcare services to patients.
