New Delhi: The North-East District Police have arrested two men in connection with an alleged cyber fraud worth approximately ₹2.10 crore, in which a victim was reportedly deceived through a so-called digital arrest scam. Investigators traced part of the suspected proceeds to a bank account in the Yamuna Vihar area that received ₹98,592 on October 12, 2026.

During the investigation, police recovered four mobile phones, six debit cards and ten cheque books. Investigators are now examining the financial trail, the accused persons’ alleged roles and possible links to other individuals involved in the fraud.

Investigation Traces Suspicious Transaction to Bank Account

North-East District DCP Rahul Alwal said the Cyber Police Station team was examining complaints registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal when it identified a suspicious bank account operated from the Yamuna Vihar area.

Bank records showed that ₹98,592 was deposited into the account on October 12, 2026. Of this amount, ₹49,000 was withdrawn on the same day, while the remaining sum was reportedly withdrawn through a cheque.

Further investigation linked the transaction to e-FIR No. 0170/2026 registered with the Delhi Police’s IFSO unit. The case relates to a complaint filed by Pratibha Jain, a resident of Janakpuri, who alleged that cybercriminals duped her of approximately ₹2.10 crore by placing her under the threat of a so-called digital arrest.

Shop Allegedly Used to Facilitate Banking Transactions

Following technical surveillance and sustained efforts, police arrested Sonu Khan, 36, from Street No. 13 in Ashok Nagar on October 23. According to investigators, he operated a disposable goods shop in the area.

Police recovered three mobile phones, six debit cards and ten cheque books from his possession. During questioning, Sonu allegedly disclosed the name of Arjun Chaudhary, 38, who was subsequently arrested.

According to the police investigation, Arjun had financially assisted Sonu in setting up the shop and allegedly gained control over Sonu’s bank account in return. Investigators are examining the nature of this arrangement and whether the account was used to receive and transfer money connected to the alleged cyber fraud.

One mobile phone was recovered from Arjun. Police said no previous criminal records were found for either accused in the information available to them.

How Is the Police Tracing the Wider Fraud Network?

The operation was conducted by a team led by Inspector Rahul Kumar, Station House Officer of the Cyber Police Station. Head Constables Amit Kumar, Amit Chaudhary and Rohan were part of the team. ACP Operations Satendra Kumar Singh supervised the operation.

Investigators are analysing the seized mobile phones, banking documents and other digital evidence to trace subsequent transactions and identify additional accounts that may have been used in the alleged fraud.

The police are also working to establish the precise roles of both arrested men and determine whether other individuals were involved in the wider network.

Further Investigation Underway

The arrests mark a step in the investigation into the alleged ₹2.10 crore digital arrest scam. Police are continuing to follow the financial trail to determine where the money went and whether the suspected account was connected to other cybercrime cases.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge after the examination of the seized evidence and banking records.
