A fresh alert has been issued in Uttarakhand for heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain warning for three districts of the state. Due to continuous rainfall and landslides in the state, 284 roads across the state remain closed, and efforts are being made to reopen them. Although the pace of the monsoon has decreased over the past few days, the state received 200% more rainfall than normal last week. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for rain today in Dehradun, Champawat, and Nainital districts. Other districts have also been warned of heavy rain accompanied by lightning. However, in the plains, hot weather will persist during the day due to bright sunlight. In the coming days, light rain is expected across the state.

Rain 200% Above Normal in the Past Week

Looking at the figures, from August 28 to September 3, 187.6 mm of rainfall was recorded in the state, which is nearly 200% higher than normal. The highest rainfall was recorded in Bageshwar district, where 274.3 mm of rain was recorded in a week, which is 686% more than normal. Meanwhile, Udham Singh Nagar district recorded the highest rainfall of 327 mm, which is 440% above normal. The least rainfall was recorded in Pauri, with 73 mm, which is 9% below normal.

284 Roads Closed Across the State Due to Debris

After the rain, 284 roads in the state have been blocked by debris. Of these, the most—54 roads—are in Uttarkashi district. In addition, 24 roads are closed in Pauri, 41 in Chamoli, 24 in Tehri, 29 in Rudraprayag, 54 in Uttarkashi, 18 in Dehradun, 17 in Haridwar, 23 in Pithoragarh, 2 in Champawat, 32 in Almora, 5 in Bageshwar, 10 in Nainital, and 10 in Udham Singh Nagar.

Disaster Management Department on High Alert

The Uttarakhand Meteorological Department has once again issued an alert for three districts, including Dehradun, due to rainfall. Following this warning, the Disaster Management Department has become vigilant. The SDRF and NDRF have been put on alert in the state. Meanwhile, the government has already suffered losses of ₹5,700 crore due to disasters in the state, while 79 people have lost their lives and more than 90 people are missing.
