New Delhi: To establish the national capital, Delhi, as a hub for clean energy, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has reiterated a firm commitment to bringing solar energy to every household. Speaking at a plenary session on solar energy during the India Renewable Energy Summit and Exhibition held at Bharat Mandapam on Wednesday, the Chief Minister stated that the government’s goal is to transform every rooftop in Delhi into a solar energy centre. This initiative will not only benefit the environment but also alleviate the burden of electricity bills for ordinary families.
The Chief Minister noted that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is making rapid strides in the field of clean and renewable energy. The Delhi government, too, is moving in this direction, committed to making the capital a model for green energy. She explained that under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ (Prime Minister’s Solar Home: Free Electricity Scheme), rooftop solar systems with a capacity of up to 3 kW are being installed for free. For systems with a higher capacity, a subsidy of up to ₹1.56 lakh is available.
Nearly one lakh people have registered to adopt solar energy
According to the chief minister, approximately one lakh people in Delhi have already registered to adopt solar energy. This figure indicates that residents of the capital are increasingly shifting away from traditional energy sources toward cleaner and more affordable alternatives. She emphasised that the government’s vision is for solar energy to go beyond being merely a technology—it should become an integral part of the lifestyle in every household. The event was attended by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, along with various experts and industry representatives from both India and abroad.
