New Delhi/Ghaziabad: Tamil Nadu’s State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team emerged as the champion at the Second National SDRF CBRN Competition 2026, held at the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 8th Battalion campus in Ghaziabad. Uttarakhand secured second place, while Bihar finished third in the national-level event, which tested teams’ preparedness to respond to complex and invisible disaster threats.
The competition, held from November 2 to 4, concluded on Wednesday with NDRF Director General Piyush Anand attending the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
Which Teams Reached the Final and Who Won?
SDRF teams from 19 states participated in regional-level competitions, from which eight teams qualified for the final round. The finalists represented Rajasthan, Bihar, Haryana, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
After a closely contested competition, Tamil Nadu claimed the top position and received a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. Uttarakhand finished second, earning Rs 75,000 and a trophy, while Bihar secured third place with a prize of Rs 50,000 and a trophy.
NDRF Chief Emphasises Teamwork and Preparedness
Addressing the closing ceremony, NDRF Director General Piyush Anand highlighted the importance of the spirit of ‘Team India’. He said the NDRF and SDRF share a common objective: saving lives and protecting property during disasters.
He emphasised that joint exercises, specialised training and the exchange of operational experience help improve coordination and technical capabilities among response teams.
Describing chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) emergencies as particularly challenging, Anand noted that such threats may emerge without clear early warning signs. Regular exercises and training, he said, are essential to ensure that responders can act swiftly, accurately and safely during emergencies.
NDRF Inspector General Narendra Singh Bundela, along with other senior officials and personnel, was also present at the ceremony.
