IBalrampur gangrape case: In the case of the gang rape of a 22-year-old deaf and mute girl in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, the police arrested two accused after an encounter. This incident took place on the night of August 11 in the Bahadurpur, Dehat Kotwali area, which was revealed when the CCTV footage of the victim went viral on social media.

The arrested accused have been identified as Ankur Verma (21) and Harshit Pandey (22). Both were caught by the police on Wednesday while trying to flee to Nepal. Both were shot in the leg in the encounter, after which they were arrested.

Brutality While Returning From Grandmother

According to the police, the victim was returning home from her maternal grandmother’s house at around 8 pm on August 11 when a young man forcibly dragged her into a deserted field. Unable to hear and speak, the victim could not save herself and went into a state of shock. When she did not return home till 9 pm, the family started searching for her and found her unconscious in the field. She was immediately admitted to the District Women’s Hospital, where her condition is now stable.

FIR registered, police engaged in investigation

SP Vikas Kumar said that an FIR was immediately registered, keeping the identity of the victim secret, and a special team was formed to search for the accused. The victim gave some information about the incident through gestures, after which the investigation team scanned the CCTV footage and traced the registration numbers of the accused’s bike.

Caught while trying to escape to Nepal

According to the police, the location of both the accused was found on the outskirts of the Kotwali Dehat police station area late on Tuesday night. When the police surrounded them at around 12:30 pm, they started firing. Both were injured in retaliatory action and were arrested on the spot. Both confessed to the crime during interrogation.

CCTV footage became important evidence

The police have got hold of an important 14-second video, which is from a camera installed near the SP residence. In this, the victim can be seen running away in a frightened state. This footage is now the main part of the investigation.
