Chandigarh: Two players of the Indian Women’s Cricket World Cup team, Amanjot Kaur and Harleen Kaur Deol, reached Chandigarh airport today, where they were given a grand welcome. Both the champion daughters were honored by the Punjab government at Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh International Airport. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, Aman Arora and MP Meet Hayer were present on the occasion of the welcome. Mohali’s Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal also reached the occasion. The players were welcomed with drums, garlands of flowers and shawls. Family members of both the players were also present at the airport on this occasion.

Amanjot Kaur said, “This victory isn’t just ours, it’s the victory of all of Punjab. We didn’t sleep a day before the match, but through hard work and teamwork, we won the cup.” She credited her parents and coach for this success. Meanwhile, Harleen Kaur Deol said, “This moment is huge. The Indian women’s team has made history. I thank the Punjab government for the grand welcome. Everyone should work hard for their dreams; God grants them dreams and fulfills them.” Harleen’s family said that today is a proud moment for all of Punjab. They expressed their happiness at the government’s honoring of their daughters. Tractors and vehicles decorated for the champions were decorated with posters bearing their names. From the airport, both players departed for the victory parade in Chandigarh.

It’s worth noting that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann personally congratulated the players via video call after the World Cup win and praised the entire team’s hard work. Captains Harmanpreet Kaur, Amanjot Kaur, and fielding coach Munish Bali will soon be honored by the Punjab Cricket Association. Cash awards of ₹11 lakh each have been announced for Amanjot and Harleen, and ₹5 lakh for coach Munish Bali.
