Patna: About less than four months after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with PM Narendra Modi, led NDA to a landslide win in the state assembly elections in November and for a record tenth time took oath as chief minister, is set to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha, a move that will pave the way for a first BJP-led government in the state.

What did Nitish Kumar say?

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday in a message to Bihar people ahead of filing his nomination to the Rajya Sabha, thanked voters for their long-standing support.

In a post on X, Nitish Kumar said that Bihar people’s trust had enabled him to serve the state for more than two decades.

“For more than two decades, you have consistently placed your trust and support in me, and it is on the strength of that trust that we have served Bihar and all of you with complete dedication,” said in a post in Hindi on X.

When will Nitish Kumar file for nomination?

Nitish Kumar, who turned 75 on March 1, will arrive at the Bihar State Assembly at 11:30 am to file his nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election, according to India Today TV reports.

According to the media reports, the party has retained Ramnath Thakur and he will also submit his nomination as a candidate of the Janata Dal (United).

Notably, the filing of nomination papers for five Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar comes to a close on Thursday.

Will Amit Shah also be present?

According to reports, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to arrive in Patna on Thursday and will be present during the filing of nominations. 

A meeting could happen between Amit Shah, Nitish Kumar and other NDA leaders after the nomination process. 

Discussions on the formula for forming a new government in Bihar could take place during this meeting, according to sources.

What did Vijay Kumar Chaudhary say?

The development regarding Nitish Kumar filing his nomination for the Rajya Sabha came into the limelight after Bihar minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary confirmation on Wednesday

He said that CM Nitish Kumar was considering getting elected to the Rajya Sabha. 

“Talks are on. Whatever decision has to be taken, it will be taken by the chief minister”, he said in the late evening to news agency PTI.

What about Nitin Nabin?

The JD(U) president will file his nomination alongside BJP national president Nitin Nabin in the presence of Amit Shah, according to sources.

“JD(U) president Nitish Kumar and BJP national president Nitin Nabin will file their nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday. Home Minister Amit Shah will remain present on the occasion,” a source in the NDA told PTI.

Is Nishant Kumar joining politics?

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar is all to enter politics by joining the government; while speculation abounds that he might be appointed as deputy CM, due no clarity on his position or portfolio.
