Chandigarh: A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave a statement regarding the CBI investigation into the suicide case of Punjab Warehouse Corporation District Manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also indicated that he is not in favor of handing over the investigation to the CBI. He said that the Punjab Police is fully capable of investigating the matter. He said that the minister’s resignation has been taken in this matter, a case has been registered, and he has also been arrested.

Taking a dig at the opposition leaders who are demanding a CBI investigation into this matter from the government, the chief minister asked, “Who got the CBI investigation done and resigned when an ADGP in Haryana committed suicide?” He referred to an incident in Patiala and said who got the investigation done and resigned when a person committed suicide by writing the name of the then chief minister, Captain Amarinder Singh. Similarly, mentioning the case of suicide committed by a minor girl in Mehal Kalan, he said that we celebrate that day till today, did the government order a CBI inquiry in that case, or did someone resign?

The chief minister once again reiterated that he is deeply saddened by the death of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa and the government stands with the family. He assured them that justice will be given to the family at all costs.

Taking a dig at the opposition parties coming together on this issue, he said, “Come on, at least all these people are against me, but they are seen together on one platform.” Talking to reporters here today, the chief minister said that no value can be placed on anyone’s life, but I had assured from the first day that no leniency would be shown in this matter.
