Punjab: Amritpal Singh Mehron, the prime accused in the murder case of Ludhiana-based social media influencer Kanchan Kumari—also known as ‘Kamal Kaur Bhabhi’—has been brought to Punjab from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to police official Sarabjit Singh Brar, a team from the Bathinda Police arrived in India after taking custody of the accused from UAE authorities.
Mehron had been detained by the Sharjah Police in January of this year during questioning regarding a visa-related matter. The process of bringing him back to India (deportation) took some time to complete. On June 11, 2025, the accused, along with three accomplices, had abducted the influencer, murdered her, and abandoned her body in a car parked outside Adesh Hospital in Bathinda.
His other accomplices in this case have already been arrested. Following the crime, Amritpal had fled the country. The Punjab Police, working in coordination with central agencies, traced his location to the Middle East and initiated the deportation process. Subsequently, he was taken into custody and deported to India. On the morning of April 10, 2026, he was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
Amritpal Was the Main Mastermind
SSP Amneet Kondal stated that the police interrogated the murder accused—Nimratjit Singh and Jaspreet—for several hours while they were in remand. The accused revealed that Amritpal was the main mastermind behind the crime. Amritpal had been planning to kill Kanchan for the past three months. He had involved both of them in this plot. As part of the plan, the trio traveled to Ludhiana to conduct a reconnaissance of Kanchan. They kept a close watch on her movements—where she went, whom she met, and her daily routine.
Stayed Near Kanchan’s House for a Few Days
The SSP revealed that both accused individuals, along with Amritpal, had stayed at several hotels located in the vicinity of Kanchan’s house. On June 7, both Amritpal and Jaspreet traveled to Ludhiana. Jaspreet remained outside Kanchan’s residence, while Amritpal went inside. However, Kanchan was not at home that day. Subsequently, on June 8, Amritpal visited her home once again. There, he met Kanchan and her mother, Girija Devi.
Hired for Car Showroom Promotion
According to the SSP, Amritpal told Kanchan that he needed her to promote a car showroom in Bathinda. Kanchan declined the offer, explaining that her mother was currently unwell. Following this, Amritpal left. Later that same day, Amritpal called Kanchan again and engaged her in conversation. He promised her that they would also arrange for the renovation and servicing of her car. Persuaded by these assurances, Kanchan agreed.
Traveled to Bathinda with Kanchan on June 9
According to the SSP, on June 9, Amritpal, Jaspreet, and Nimrat traveled from Moga to Ludhiana in a Scorpio SUV. Amritpal placed a WhatsApp call to Kanchan and asked her to meet him near Apollo Hospital. Subsequently, Amritpal took a seat in the back of Kanchan’s Eon car, while Jaspreet and Nimrat drove the Scorpio ahead of them. As soon as the two vehicles reached Bathinda, Amritpal switched over to his Scorpio, while Nimrat got into Kanchan’s car to ride with her.
Kept Taking Kanchan to Various Outlets Until Late at Night
Nimrat drove Kanchan’s car to a garage. Work on the vehicle continued from 5:00 PM until 12:30 AM. Once the work was completed, Kanchan and Nimrat exited the garage. Meanwhile, Jaspreet and Amritpal, arriving in the Scorpio, met them outside the garage. Both cars continued to roam around the city. The four of them spent the late hours of the night visiting various outlets in and around Bhucho. As per the plan, Jaspreet parked his Scorpio at a petrol pump.
