Tarn Taran. A blast occurred on the railway line near the Shambhu Border last night. During the incident—while attempting to blow up the track—the body of a terrorist was blown to shreds. He has been identified as Jagroop Singh, alias ‘Joopa,’ a resident of Panjwar village in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. Residents of Panjwar—a village historically known for its links to terrorists—appeared shocked by the news. Meanwhile, officials from intelligence agencies have set up camp in the village. Jagroop Singh Joopa, who ran a flour mill, is reported to have been approximately 33 years old.

Case Registered Against Joopa During Assembly By-election

During the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election, a complaint was lodged against Joopa at the Jhabbhal police station regarding the tearing down of posters. Apart from this, no other criminal case was registered against him. Villagers were left stunned on Tuesday when they learned that Joopa had died during the blast on the railway track. A father of two daughters, Joopa was often seen dressed in the traditional attire of the Nihangs. Villagers Pal Singh, Major Singh, and Sevak Singh stated that they had never even imagined that the married Jagroop Singh could be linked to terrorists. It is worth noting that Paramjit Singh Panjwar, the chief of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF), was shot dead by motorcycle-borne assailants in Pakistan last year.

Several other terrorists have also hailed from Panjwar village. The police are currently scrutinizing records pertaining to Jagroop Singh Joopa’s family. Tarn Taran SSP Surinder Lamba stated that information regarding Joopa’s family is being gathered. The report generated following a thorough investigation into the matter will be forwarded to higher authorities.

Joopa Was Seen Roaming in the Village Just Two Days Ago

In connection with the blast on the railway line, the Tarn Taran police have rounded up five suspects based on inputs received from intelligence agencies. It is believed that these individuals may yield crucial information regarding the blast case, particularly concerning their links to terrorist groups. Jupa himself was spotted roaming around the village just two days prior. The individuals in question are currently being interrogated under the leadership of DSP Sukhbir Singh of the Tarn Taran sub-division.
