Chandigarh: The first rain of May drenched the entire state of Punjab due to the influence of the western disturbance that became active on Sunday. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and dense clouds in the morning changed the conditions in many districts. Due to winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 kmph, darkness fell in many places during the day and trees also fell in many places. Ludhiana topped the rainfall figures between 6 am and 9 am, where 24.6 mm of rain was recorded. Apart from this, 19.7 mm of rain was recorded in Chandigarh, 19.0 mm in Mohali and 17.6 mm of rain was recorded at another centre. 2.2 mm of rain was recorded in Amritsar, 2.5 mm in Ferozepur, 2.1 mm in S.B.S. Nagar and 1.5 mm of rain was recorded in Ropar. Patiala and Faridkot received light rain.
Rain likely in several districts
According to a special bulletin issued by the Meteorological Department, Chandigarh, rain activities are likely to continue in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on May 4 and 5 along with thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds. There may also be hailstorm at some places. During this, strong winds may blow at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour at various places, while in some areas this speed may reach 50 to 60 km per hour. At the same time, there are chances of light to moderate rain from May 6 to 8.
Temperature likely to drop by 4 degrees
A major change may also be seen in the temperature. There will not be much change in the maximum temperature in the next 48 hours, but after that, there is a possibility of a drop in the temperature by 3 to 4 degrees. Meanwhile, in a letter issued by the Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab, the administration has been advised to remain alert. The party said that this sudden change in weather can cause harm to farmers and the common people, so proper disaster management arrangements should be made. It has also appealed to the people to remain alert and stay in safe places.
