Kolkata: A week after mandating Vande Mataram recital compulsory in all schools, the West Bengal government has made the singing of the national song must during morning assemblies in state-run schools and in all government, aided and recognised madrasahs , according to officials on Thursday.
What did the government say?
The Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department has issued an order to make the singing of Vande Mataram mandatory during assembly prayers before classes in all government, aided, and recognised madrasahs across the state with immediate effect
“The singing of Vande Mataram during morning assembly prayers prior to the start of classes should be made mandatory so that Vande Mataram is sung by all students in all schools in the state with immediate effect,” the notice stated.
Madrasahs will now be required to comply with this order, replacing the old rules. This new rule will apply equally to all aided and unaided madrasahs , from government-run model madrasahs.

What notice did Madrasah Education issued?
The order issued by the Director of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department stated that in supersession of all previous orders and practices, it is mandatory to sing Vande Mataram during prayer before the commencement of classes in all madrasahs i.e. Government Model madrasahs, aided madrasahs, Approved MSKS, Approved SSKS and Recognized Non-Aided madrasahs in the state of West Bengal under the Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department.
What about orders for school?
Earlier, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s government had made Vande Mataram compulsory in all government and aided schools under the School Education Department. The notification issued by the Additional Chief Secretary stated that the West Bengal government has made it mandatory with immediate effect to sing the national song Vande Mataram during the prayer assembly before the start of classes in all schools under the state’s School Education Department.
