New Delhi: With the objective of making the path to justice easier, ensuring timely resolution of disputes, and sparing ordinary citizens from the burden of repeated court visits, the third National Lok Adalat held in Delhi has set a new benchmark in the judicial system. On Sunday, October 25, 2026, under the aegis of the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA), a total of 176,379 cases were settled, with the total value of settlements reaching approximately ₹599.71 crore. This event proved to be a significant step toward providing accessible, simple, and swift justice to the general public.

Under the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Lok Adalat benches were constituted across all district court complexes in Delhi, the Delhi High Court, Permanent Lok Adalats, Debt Recovery Tribunals, and both State and District Consumer Commissions. The initiative was spearheaded by Justice Nitin Vasudev Sambre, Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and Executive Chairperson of the DSLSA.

Major Success in Settling Traffic Challans

During this National Lok Adalat, 174,452 cases were settled in district courts, resulting in settlement amounts totaling ₹317.42 crore. This included the resolution of 138,493 traffic challans from across Delhi, with the total fines and settlement amounts reaching ₹2.77 crore. The digital Lok Adalat facility spared people from long queues and the need for repeated visits to offices. The process was made more convenient by the real-time updating of information on the Delhi Traffic Police portal and the receipt of instant confirmation via messages.

In a Lok Adalat held at the North-West District Court complex, a motor accident claim case (No. 74/2024)—*Sarika Kwatra & Ors. v. M/s New Trishul Transport Service & Ors.*—was settled for Rs 2.90 crore. This amount will be paid by the insurance company to the dependents of the individual who lost their life in the accident. Additionally, in Dwarka, a motor accident claim case (No. 218/2019)—*Neelam Mudaliar v. Shakuntala*—which had been pending since 2019 under the South-West District Legal Services Authority, was also resolved amicably.

Success Across Forums: From the High Court to Consumer Commissions

In the Delhi High Court, 44 cases were settled for approximately Rs 10.87 crore. Furthermore, 284 cases were resolved in District Consumer Commissions for Rs 12.31 crore; 97 cases in Debt Recovery Tribunals for approximately Rs 252.83 crore; and 1,502 cases in the Permanent Lok Adalat for electricity-related matters for Rs 6.27 crore.

An Example of Inclusive Justice

The Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) promoted the message of inclusive justice by including members of the transgender community, acid attack survivors, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and individuals from the North-East region as associate members across various Lok Adalat benches. Senior judicial officers inspected several court complexes to review the arrangements. Key officials, including Member Secretary Sunena Sharma, Special Secretary Tanvi Khurana, the Principal District & Sessions Judge, and others, played an active role in this process. Officials also assessed the arrangements at the Rohini, Tis Hazari, and Dwarka court complexes. For the convenience of citizens, facilities such as help desks, wheelchairs, ramps, drinking water, restrooms, and security arrangements were provided. This event conveyed the message that justice is not merely about delivering a verdict, but also about ensuring a timely and respectful resolution to people’s problems.
