Chandigarh: During the CII Northern Region meeting in Amritsar, the Punjab government clearly stated that the state is now ready to welcome large-scale investments. Industry Minister Sanjeev Arora explained that Punjab is focusing on sectors like industry, power, investment promotion and NRI relations. He emphasised that the government wants to make starting business easier and eliminate hesitation among investors. The atmosphere at the meeting was positive and both government and industry agreed to work together for growth.

Does ₹150 Crore Investment Reflect Rising Confidence?

The biggest highlight of the meeting was the ₹150 crore investment announced by SUJAN Group in Amritsar’s tourism sector. CII Northern Region Chairperson Anjali Singh said this investment shows that investors are gaining confidence in Punjab. She added that if the government continues to provide land support, strong policy backing and better facilities, more companies will choose Punjab. This hospitality-based investment is expected to boost tourism image and generate employment in the state.

Will Policy Reforms Change The Game?

The minister shared that Punjab has formed 24 sector-specific committees. A new industrial master policy is set to be released soon, including dedicated guidelines for each sector. Under the ‘Right to Business’ law, industries classified under green and some orange categories will receive approvals in just five days. This move is expected to benefit both large investors and small businesses. Industry representatives welcomed this reform and called it a practical change.

How Is Power Planning Being Modernised?

The government is preparing a long-term power strategy based on estimated requirements up to 2035. The plan may include a combination of thermal and renewable energy sources. The focus is on providing stable and affordable electricity to industries. Officials said reliable power will help attract manufacturing units that need uninterrupted supply. This planning aims to support future industrial expansion in Punjab without energy shortages.

Is Infrastructure Also Being Strengthened?

To support industrial development, land has been identified for two major exhibition centres in Mohali and Ludhiana, with tenders already underway. A third centre is planned in Amritsar and land identification is in progress. Punjab currently has 10 ICDs, two freight stations, two international airports and the operational Adampur Airport. The upcoming Halwara Airport is expected to further improve logistics and connectivity. Officials believe better connectivity will reduce transportation time and cost.

What Role Will Tourism And Branding Play?

Anjali Singh suggested promoting land banks, building cold-chain facilities for agricultural products and developing heritage tourism locations. She also recommended appointing a State Brand Ambassador to represent Punjab nationally and globally. Tourism-based investment is expected to rise due to government support and improved business policies. The recently confirmed tourism investment by SUJAN is being seen as a start of greater revival in the sector.

Can Government And Industry Work As Growth Partners?

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment from both sides. Industry representatives said Punjab’s direction is promising and reforms are practical. Government officials assured that investors will receive full support through simplified processes and better planning. The overall sentiment was hopeful, with expectations that Punjab can soon position itself as a strong industrial and tourism-driven economy.
