Dehradun: Preparations for Chardham Yatra have intensified and in this regard the Transport Department has taken a big decision. The process of making green cards for commercial vehicles will be started from March 23. This time the focus of the department is clear, security and strictness. Officials say that no vehicle will be allowed to travel without a fitness check.

What is a Green Card and why is it important?

Green card is actually a kind of proof, which ensures that the vehicle going on the journey is technically completely fit. Through this, the transport department maintains a record of every vehicle so that information can be obtained immediately in case of any emergency.

What rules will apply to which vehicles?

Vehicles with more than 12 seats coming from outside states will get a green card only for 15 days. Whereas for local vehicles of Uttarakhand, this card will be valid for six months. This time the rules have been made more strict so that both crowd and risk can be controlled.

When and where will the process start?

The work of making green cards and trip cards will begin with worship in Rishikesh from March 23. Initially priority will be given to vehicles from Uttarakhand. Apart from this, this process will also continue at Haridwar, Vikasnagar and major checkposts.

How to apply?

Vehicle owners will have to apply by visiting the website of the Transport Department. Along with this, information related to the vehicle’s RC, fitness certificate, pollution certificate and tax will have to be submitted. Without these documents the application will not be accepted.

What are the conditions for the driver?

This time the rules have also been made strict for drivers. It is necessary to have “Hill Indoors” on the driver’s license; that is, the driver should have experience driving on hilly roads. Apart from this, health tests and eye examinations of all the drivers will also be done.

What is a trip card and why is it important?

After Green Card, it will be mandatory to take Trip Card for every journey. In this, complete information related to vehicle, driver and passengers will be recorded. This information will prove to be very helpful in any accident or emergency.

Will the rules apply to tourist vehicles also?

Now not only the pilgrims but also the vehicles coming for tourism will have to get green cards made. This rule will also be applicable to tourist vehicles going to areas like Kanatal, Chopta, Harsil, and Valley of Flowers and their card will be valid for 15 days.

When will the journey start?

The Chardham Yatra will begin with the opening of the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham on 19th April. In view of this, the government is already busy strengthening the arrangements so that the journey can be completed in a safe and orderly manner.
