The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody four people, including three officers from the Military Engineer Services (MES), Sagar, and a middleman, while they were receiving a bribe of Rs 80,000 from a complainant. According to a statement, the CBI had filed a case against the Garrison Engineer (GE), the Assistant Garrison Engineer (AGE) of MES, Sagar, and a middleman. They were accused of demanding a bribe of 2 per cent of the contract amount Rs 1,00,000 through the middleman for handing over the contract site to a contractor for repair and maintenance work under an allotted contract.
Bribe Reduced After Negotiation
After talks, the accused decided to take Rs 80,000 at the rate of 1.5 per cent of the contract value from the complainant. CBI set up a trap and caught the four accused while they were taking the Rs 80,000 bribe from the complainant. All four have been arrested and will be presented before the Court of the Ld. Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jabalpur, on 12.09.2025.
Searches and Ongoing Probe
Searches were carried out at the offices and homes of the accused, which led to the recovery of important documents and items. The investigation is still in progress.
