Mathura: A national-level wrestling competition organised by the Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation on Monday has sparked controversy over the result of its ₹5 lakh prize bout. The match between Shera Gurjar of Fatehabad, Agra, and wrestler Bhupendra from Ajnala, Punjab, has come under scrutiny after Bhupendra accused the organisers and officials of an unfair decision. Following his defeat, the Punjab wrestler claimed that the result did not reflect the actual course of the contest.

High-Stakes Bout Draws Attention

The wrestling event witnessed participation from prominent wrestlers representing different states across the country. Several bouts, ranging from smaller contests to high-value prize matches, attracted large crowds.

However, the biggest attraction was the ₹5 lakh prize bout featuring Shera Gurjar and Bhupendra. Both wrestlers put up a strong contest, keeping spectators engaged throughout the match.

After the bout concluded, Shera Gurjar was declared the winner.

Why Did the Punjab Wrestler Challenge the Verdict?

Bhupendra expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, claiming that the contest had remained evenly matched and that he should not have been declared the loser. He alleged that the verdict was one-sided and questioned whether the match had been judged fairly.

Expressing disappointment over the outcome, Bhupendra announced that he would no longer participate in wrestling competitions in Mathura or anywhere else in Uttar Pradesh.

Organisers Yet to Respond to the Allegations

The wrestler’s allegations have brought the ₹5 lakh bout into the spotlight, with the decision also attracting reactions on social media.

However, the allegations of unfair judging have not been independently verified. The organisers and wrestling officials are yet to present their version of the incident.
