‘Stuck for 10 mins’: Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line hit by snag again, crowds surge on platforms

Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line faced major delays on Monday morning and afternoon after a problem in the signalling system at Millennium City Centre Gurugram station forced trains to move slowly. Many passengers were left waiting, and heavy crowds built up across several stations.

DMRC Explains the Issue

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the fault disrupted the process of turning trains around from Gurugram towards Samaypur Badli. This led to slowdowns on the stretch between Sultanpur and Millennium City Centre. DMRC posted on X, “A signalling issue at Millennium City Centre Gurugram is causing trains to take longer to turn around for trips towards Samaypur Badli. As a result, services are running a bit late between Sultanpur and Millennium City Centre.

Commuters Face Frustration

Despite the official update, passengers said the trouble was more widespread. A commuter posted on X, “Been waiting for several minutes at Sultanpur Station,” while another wrote, “The train has been stuck at Udyog Bhawan for the last ten minutes. The entire stretch from Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre is disturbed because of the chain effect.

At Sikanderpur station, people complained about sudden changes in announcements regarding platforms for trains to Gurugram. A passenger wrote, “This kind of confusion can lead to chaos. Who will be responsible if something goes wrong?” A video posted around 12:37 pm showed a packed platform full of commuters waiting for trains.

Rush and Chaos on Platforms

Large groups of passengers stood squeezed together on platforms, struggling to move. What’s happening? “They’re confusing everyone,” a passenger said. On platform 2, when a train arrived, people hurriedly shoved and jostled to get into an already packed coach. An elderly man managed to get inside just before the doors closed, with his wife giving him a final push. By around 1 pm, DMRC announced that normal services on the Yellow Line had resumed.

Repeated Technical Failures

This was the second disruption on the Yellow Line in just one week. During peak hours last Friday, hundreds of commuters were stranded because of a similar technical issue. A DMRC spokesperson said, “Train operations had to be regulated on a section of the Yellow Line today due to a signalling fault between New Delhi and Patel Chowk stations from 7:25 am until around 12 noon.

The spokesperson added, “Trains ran at a reduced speed of 25 kmph between Kashmere Gate and Patel Chowk, while services on the rest of the line continued normally. However, some crowding of trains was noticed along the entire corridor. The Yellow Line is among the busiest routes of the Delhi Metro. It links Delhi University, Central Secretariat, INA, AIIMS, and Gurugram, carrying lakhs of passengers every day.
