New Delhi: The accident that happened on 3rd February in Dwarka, Delhi, is the kind of nightmare no one ever wants to experience. 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra was going to office on his bike. Near Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute in Sector-11, around 11.30 am, a speedy Scorpio SUV hit his Yamaha R15 from behind with such force that Sahil died on the spot.
How severe was the collision?
Police and postmortem reports say that the collision was so strong that Sahil’s head was badly torn, several ribs were broken, and his elbow was shattered. The cause of death was deep head injury and bleeding. The SUV also went ahead and collided with a parked Swift Dezire cab, injuring cab driver Ajit Singh. Sahil was about to reach the office. He was just 10 minutes away, but everything was over.
Who was driving the car?
17-year-old boy Akshatra Singh was driving the Scorpio. The police caught him on the spot. A case was registered against him under sections 281 (negligent driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 125(a) (endangering life) of the Indian Penal Code. The Juvenile Board sent him to the observation home, but on February 10, he got temporary bail for the 10th board exam.
What did the accused’s father say to the media?
On Tuesday, the boy’s father came in front of the cameras and spoke in a tearful voice. He said: “Our entire family is in shock. The Scorpio is our transport company’s vehicle. I had no idea that my son was driving. He was going to drop his sister somewhere. I was out at that time, my wife called from home. I can feel the pain of the victim’s family. I am very sorry.”
He also said that he has given all the documents to the police and is fully cooperating in the investigation. His sister was not making a reel; it was just a short video.
Why a case against the father also?
The police imposed Section 199A of the Motor Vehicle Act on the father. Under this section, if a minor breaks the rules by driving a vehicle, then the owner or guardian of the vehicle is responsible. Investigation revealed that the boy had earlier declared his age wrong. When the real age came to light, action was taken against the father also.
Sahil’s mother’s anger and pain
Sahil’s mother said with great anger and heartbreak, “My son was just 10 minutes away from the office. He was lying on the road for 10 minutes; no help came. That boy should not have been driving. I want the strictest action possible against him.”
Sahil worked part-time in an insurance company and was going to study in the UK this year. The mother says that the minor was making videos while performing stunts, due to which her son lost his life.
This accident is not just a death; it ended all the dreams of a family. People are now demanding strictness on minors driving, speeding and stunts on the road. Police investigation is still going on.
