Howrah: The Election Commission of India has decided to utilise the popular animated character “Chhota Bheem” to improve voter awareness in West Bengal’s Howrah district. The initiative is part of a campaign to promote inclusivity and engagement within the electoral process, particularly targeting young and first-time voters.

What is there in the campaign?

The campaign that uses the popular animated character “Chhota Bheem”
features the tagline “Chunav Ka Parv, Paschim Bengal Ka Garv,” that aims at educating the populace and motivating them to exercise their right to vote.

When is election?

The upcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in two phases, i.e. on April 23 and 29.

Vote counting and result declarations will take place on May 4.

What did the officials say?

An official from the Election Commission said that the initiative is part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, that aims to promote voter awareness through engaging content that resonates with families, children, and new voters.

“As part of our Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiatives, in collaboration with Chhota Bheem, voter awareness activities are being organised in Howrah district of West Bengal. Chhota Bheem, being a popular and friendly public awareness animation icon, will help in spreading voter awareness message more engaging and relatable for families, children and first-time voters. He seems a good fit because he is one of India’s most loved and trusted characters with strong recall across age groups,” the official said.

Green Gold Animation, founder and CEO of  Green Gold Animation, said, “We are happy that EC has decided to use our popular animation character in their awareness campaign. This is in line with the brand’s larger public interest associations, including collaborations across literacy, public safety, education and awareness initiatives with government and PSU-linked institutions. The objective of this collaboration is to make voter awareness more visible, memorable and participative, and to encourage a positive civic spirit around the democratic process.”

“India is a young country, and there are so many first-time voters who are very confused about the process, and because they are confused about the process, they may not come for voting,” he said.

“Bheem is a neutral character and is an animated character…it’s very perfectly apt to promote voting awareness among Indian citizens,” he mentioned.
