New Delhi: These days, Gen Z’s mindset, work habits, and expectations for life are frequently discussed. Meanwhile, a Gen Z girl’s reaction to her first corporate job has become a topic of discussion on social media. The girl found the office’s strict rules, fixed lunch times, limited holidays, and her manager’s attitude such that she became overwhelmed within the first few days of her job. Even her cousin couldn’t help but laugh after hearing her concerns.
This entire incident was shared by a woman named Sheetal on the social media platform X. She explained that her cousin had recently started a corporate job. She had high expectations for her new job, but after understanding the office’s procedures, her perspective began to change. What surprised her most was the fact that the office even had a fixed lunch time.
Gen Z nervous about the reality of corporate jobs?
According to Sheetal, her cousin called and informed her that all employees in the office are allowed to eat at a specific time. She asked what she would do if she got hungry before the scheduled time. Furthermore, lunch is only allowed for 45 minutes. This means that everything from eating to taking a break has to be timed.
My Gen Z cousin recently joined a corporate job, completely unaware of how office life works. Yesterday, she called and said, “You know, we have a fixed lunch time here. We can only eat during that time. What if I get hungry earlier? And we only get 45 minutes for lunch. I have only 3 paid leaves a month and we’re not even allowed to be more than 10 minutes late. The shift is 9 hours long. We have to work the entire day. And yesterday, my manager was rude to me too.” I asked her what he said, and she goes, “He said, if you don’t know how to do something, ask someone, but please don’t make mistakes because it’s a crucial project.” Then she goes, “How am I supposed to survive here? I’m already losing my aura, my mental health is COOKED and I’m gonna end up with dark circles. Girl, I didn’t sign up for this.” 😭 I couldn’t stop laughing. 🤣🤣

The girl’s complaints weren’t limited to lunch breaks. She only gets three paid days off each month. Furthermore, she’s allowed to be late for work by a maximum of 10 minutes. Her shifts are nine hours long, and she has to work all day. She found it difficult to adjust to these rules in her new job. She began to realize that office life wasn’t as easy as she’d imagined. Meanwhile, a conversation with her manager only exacerbated her troubles.
Sheetal explained that her cousin’s manager told her that if she didn’t understand a task, she could ask for help. But he also made it clear that she must avoid mistakes, as the project was crucial. Following this, the girl expressed her concern, asking how she would survive in this environment.
She jokingly remarked that her mental health was deteriorating, her face was losing its glow, and she would soon have dark circles under her eyes. She said she hadn’t considered enduring all this for a job. Sheetal said she was so upset by her cousin’s comments that she was so amused. However, the post sparked mixed opinions on social media.
