CCTV footage of the incident has now emerged, showing the guard firing with an AK-47, while the wife and mother-in-law try to escape inside the room. However, they were unable to escape the bullets.

The incident took place in Gurdaspur’s Gutthi village due to a domestic dispute. The accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a guard at the Central Jail, Gurdaspur. Gurpreet Singh was posted as a guard for a private company, PESCO, at the Central Jail, Gurdaspur. After the incident, he hid in the government quarters. He returned home with his government AK-47 rifle. At around 3 am, he fired a series of bullets at his wife, Akwinder Kaur, and mother-in-law, Gurjit Kaur. Both died on the spot. After the murders, Gurpreet fled the scene and hid in the government quarters in Scheme No. 7, Gurdaspur.

Marriage in 2016: According to the family, there was a long-standing domestic tension between Gurpreet and his wife. His sister-in-law, Parminder Kaur, also said that after their marriage in 2016, they used to have frequent fights, which is being considered as the main reason for this incident.

SSP Aditya said that the accused (deceased) was a resident of Gurdaspur. He was an ex-serviceman and worked in PESCO. He was currently posted in jail security. We received information late last night that the accused had escaped from jail with a weapon. He shot his father and wife in their house in Dorangla police station area.
