New Delhi:  Delhi Police personnel arrived at the house where Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke was staying on Friday, October 16. This visit came before the organisation’s planned “Lehra Do Tiranga” march at Central Park in Connaught Place. Police officials handed Abhijeet Dipke a notice that warned against holding the proposed demonstration citing rules that limit public gatherings.

The march was set for 5 p.m.. Was meant to bring supporters together to wave the Indian national flag. The planned demonstration was also tied to the organisation’s demand that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign over alleged irregularities, in the revision of rolls.

Why Did Delhi Police Reach Abhijeet Dipke’s Residence?

Media reports say that a group of Delhi Police officers came to the house where Dipke was staying and gave him a notice telling him not to go with the planned protest in Connaught Place.

The Delhi Police officers referred to prohibitory orders, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). These orders allow authorities to stop gatherings if they think they might cause trouble. The officers also said that Dipke did not have the permission needed for the gathering.

The notice warned that if Dipke went ahead with the march he could face action. The Delhi Police action happened hours before the event and people are wondering whether the demonstration will take place as planned.

What Is the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ March About?

CJP called the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march as a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The organisation has expressed worries about the change of rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and wants the Election Commission to be held accountable.

The protest also came after the detention and judicial custody of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. This happened after demonstrations that violated restrictions, on public assembly according to media reports.

Dipke and his supporters have described the proposed march as a demonstration. It will centre on displaying the flag and raising political and electoral concerns.

‘Hang Me’: Dipke’s Defiant Stand

I heard that ahead of the march Dipke publicly said he was ready to accept detention or legal consequences of giving up the planned demonstration. His comments, which were reported in the controversy showed his challenge to the authorities over the restrictions, on the protest.

I also read that Dipke asked why citizens who want to display the flag peacefully should face restrictions. However his stance does not mean that the gathering had permission. Police said that the prohibitory orders and permission rules still had to be followed.

Security Tightened Around Connaught Place

Authorities increased security in Delhi before the planned event. Reports said Central Park in Connaught Place would stay closed, to the public on October 16 and 17. Police were. Restrictions were put in place to stop any unauthorised gathering.

Delhi Police also said a smaller group could be allowed to meet at a spot to show the national flag. This was of letting the big gathering happen at Central Park.

What Happens Next?

The big question is whether CJP will go ahead with its planned march even though the police have given a notice and set some restrictions. Any more updates, like if people get arrested, face problems or if theres a different way to hold the protest will depend on what the people organizing it and the officials decide next.

This situation has brought focus on the balance between the right to protest peacefully and the rules that officials can put on public events. Just having the national flag isn’t the problem the police are pointing out but the event still needs to follow the laws and get the right permission.
