Haryana Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao on Friday said the state will soon hire 500 doctors to cover the shortage of medical staff in government hospitals. She explained that the recruitment proposal has been prepared and the selection process will start shortly.
She gave this information while speaking to reporters after a surprise visit to LNJP Hospital in Kurukshetra. During her visit, the minister checked the pharmacy, toilets and overall cleanliness in the hospital wards. She expressed concern over the difficulties faced by patients, especially children, because of heaps of debris and poorly maintained toilets. She instructed officials to fix these issues immediately.
Minister Reviews Facilities During Surprise Visit
The Health Minister also spoke with patients and confirmed that the pharmacy had enough medicines for their needs. She asked health department officers and doctors to make sure all essential services are given to patients without delay. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sukhbir Singh briefed her about the ongoing construction of the new hospital building, the supply of medicines, and other arrangements. Rao said the new building under construction will be completed in stages so patients do not face problems. She stressed that hygiene and upgraded toilets will be given special attention.
Health Measures After Recent Floods
Responding to questions about the recent floods, she said several districts in Haryana were affected. Health teams are checking public health conditions, giving out free medicines, and carrying out fogging operations in affected areas. She added that the government has made plans to prevent diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya but both officials and the public must stay alert. The minister praised the health officials of Kurukshetra after Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned their malaria control efforts in his Mann Ki Baat programme.

Senior officials including CMO Dr. Sukhbir Singh, Deputy CMO Dr. Ramesh Sabharwal, XEN Rishi Sachdeva and other officers were with the minister during her inspection.
