Health Minister Dr. Balbir reached PIMS, said- 65 lakh people will get free treatment

Punjab News: The Punjab government is running a campaign against drug abuse on a war footing, under which strict action is being taken against smugglers and people who want to quit drugs are being admitted to de-addiction centres. With this effort, people are also becoming aware and joining the campaign and giving secret information to the police against smugglers. Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said during a visit to Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital in Jalandhar that decisive action is being taken against smugglers through this campaign.

Health Minister gave information about Ayushman Scheme

he Health Minister also gave information about the Ayushman Scheme at PIMS Hospital. He said that now the name of the entire family will be registered in the scheme, due to which more than 65 lakh people will be able to avail the benefit of free treatment. At the same time, a committee has been formed to solve problems like lack of oxygen in the Civil Hospital and the deficiencies in other hospitals will also be removed soon.

He said that feedback is being taken continuously from de-addiction centres and other institutions. Earlier there was a lack of resources for training those who quit addiction, which has now been removed. Emphasis is being laid on rehabilitation of these people by giving special training to medical officers. Data analysis has revealed that earlier the effect of chitta was more, but now cases of ice drugs and other drugs are also increasing.

Children are being made aware

Dr. Singh said that to eradicate drug addiction from its roots, along with the police, children are also being made aware in schools. Gyms are being set up in parks so that the attention of the youth can be diverted from drug addiction to fitness and sports. Arrangements are also being made to provide employment to those who give up drug addiction so that they can make their mark in the society again.

These efforts of the government are yielding positive results. Now parents themselves are getting their children admitted to centres to get rid of drug addiction, while many smugglers are fleeing Punjab. In jails too, drug addicts are being given special training so that they can come out of the clutches of drug addiction.
