In every kitchen, some things do not last forever. Vegetables rot, milk goes sour, and spices lose their taste over time. But what many people forget is that even kitchen tools can become unsafe. One surprising example is the common pressure cooker, found in almost every Indian home. Though it looks strong, an old pressure cooker could quietly be the most dangerous item in your kitchen.

Dr. Manan Vora, a Consultant Minimal Access Orthopaedic Surgeon and Sports & Exercise Medicine Specialist, recently shared a video explaining why old cookers should be replaced. His message has gained attention online and started many discussions on social media.

Why old pressure cookers can be harmful

In the video, Dr. Vora said that when a pressure cooker gets very old, tiny amounts of lead from the metal can mix with your food. Lead is dangerous because it does not leave the body quickly. Instead, it slowly builds up in the blood, bones, and even the brain. This hidden exposure can cause health problems over time. Lead buildup may make you feel tired, weaken the nervous system, and affect memory and mood.

For children, the effects are even worse. Lead can slow brain development and lower IQ levels. That is why even an old family cooker, which looks fine on the outside, can still be harmful.

Signs your cooker needs replacement

Dr. Vora shared a few clear warning signs to watch for:

– Cookers older than 10 years should be replaced.
– Scratches, black marks, or changes in color inside the cooker may mean it is releasing toxins.
– A loose lid or whistle makes it unsafe to use.
– If food starts tasting metallic, that is a serious warning.

Protect your health with a new cooker

He strongly advises replacing the cooker as soon as you notice any of these signs. The food you eat should keep you healthy, not cause harm. By swapping out an old pressure cooker, you can ensure your meals remain safe for your whole family.
