National News: India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has spoken candidly about the growing strains in India-US relations amid recent trade disputes. Following the tariff war and the ceasefire with Pakistan, tensions have deepened as President Donald Trump imposed steep tariffs, including a 50 percent levy on Indian goods. Addressing a public event, Jaishankar highlighted the contrasting styles of Trump’s diplomacy, stressing that India remains firm on protecting its national interests while navigating the challenges of this evolving partnership.
Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said that during Operation Sindoor, talks were held with America. Along with this, talks were also held with many other countries. Just like talks are held with other countries during war, talks were held with America as well.
Trump’s method is very different—Foreign Minister
We are discussing all options with the US. We have never had a US president who has conducted foreign policy as publicly as the current president. This in itself is a change that is not limited to India alone. President Trump’s way of dealing with the world, even with his own country, is very different.”
Talks on trade deal continue—Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said, “The talks (India-US trade deal) are still on, but the basic thing is that we have some red lines in front of us. The talks are still on in the sense that no one has said that the talks are closed. People talk to each other. It is not like there is any ‘kutti’ there.
He said, “As far as we are concerned, the red lines are primarily in the interest of our farmers and to some extent our small producers. We, as a government, are committed to protecting the interests of our farmers and our small producers. We are very firm on this. This is not something we can compromise on.”
The matter was discussed during Operation Sindoor
Regarding the relations between Pakistan and America, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that there is a history of friendship between them. Pakistan has been doing politics as per its convenience. He said that we know what our strengths are and what our relations are. During Operation Sindoor also, we received calls from many countries, including America. This always happens in international relations.
